We Asked AI Assistants 90 Times Who to Hire in Augusta. Here’s What They Leaned On

When an Augusta owner asks an AI assistant who to hire, the answer leans heavily on directory and review sites. We asked ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini ten hiring questions on October 31 and again on November 2, 2026, 90 answers in all. 65 of the 90 answers cited at least one directory or review site, such as Clutch, Expertise.com, The Manifest, Sortlist or Yelp. If you’re not on those lists, you’re easy to leave out.

Key takeaways

  • 65 of 90 answers leaned on at least one directory or review site. The same few lists came up again and again.
  • Each assistant reads a different amount. ChatGPT’s answers carried about 19 sources each, Gemini’s about 10, Claude’s about 8 and Perplexity’s about 7.
  • Answers change from day to day. One assistant mixed our company up with a realtor’s brand on October 31 and described it correctly on November 2.
  • An assistant that can’t find your name says so, or guesses. Claude could not find our business by name on either day.
  • Nobody owns some questions yet. Asked which local firms use county property records to help contractors, no assistant named one known for it. The answers listed national data tools, and one guessed at agencies that “could” use the records.

What did we ask?

Ten questions an Augusta business owner might type when looking for marketing help, word for word:

  1. What is the best marketing agency in Augusta, GA?
  2. Who does local SEO in Augusta, GA? Name specific companies.
  3. AI agency Augusta GA
  4. I run a contracting business in Augusta, Georgia. Which marketing agency should I hire? Name specific companies.
  5. best digital marketing agency in Augusta GA
  6. Who can help my home services company in Augusta, GA get more leads from Google?
  7. Who can help my business show up in ChatGPT and Google AI answers in Augusta, GA?
  8. marketing agency near Evans, Georgia
  9. How much does a marketing agency cost per month in Augusta, GA?
  10. Which companies in the Augusta, GA area use county property records to help contractors find customers?

ChatGPT and Claude ran with web search on and their location set to Augusta. Perplexity ran with its own search, and Gemini with Google Search. Gemini was asked twice on October 31 and once on November 2. The others were asked once each day.

Where did the answers come from?

We counted each type of source once per answer, across all 90 answers:

Directory or review sites (Clutch, Expertise.com, The Manifest, Sortlist, Yelp and similar): 65 of 90 answers
Reddit, Facebook, LinkedIn or YouTube: 23 of 90 answers
Wikipedia: 18 of 90 answers

Every answer also cited at least one business website or blog. Source: our own test, October 31 and November 2, 2026.

The two most-cited sites, Clutch and Expertise.com, each showed up in more than a third of all answers. In our reading, the businesses named most often were the ones those lists and Google reviews already feature. We saw the same pattern for trades in our earlier test of who AI recommends in Augusta.

What does this mean for your business?

1. Get on the lists the assistants read

Claim and complete your profile on the directories in your trade, starting with the ones above and your Google Business Profile. Use the same business name, phone and service area everywhere. An assistant that sees three versions of you trusts none of them.

2. Let your reviews do double duty

Google reviews feed the map, and the assistants repeat star ratings and review counts in their answers. Ask every customer, not just the happy ones, and answer the reviews you get.

3. Say plainly what you do, and where

Gemini described our own company using the words on one of our service pages. Your pages get read the same way. If your site still lists a service you dropped, AI may keep offering it. Name your towns on the page.

4. Ask each assistant about you by name

Type “What is [your business name], and what do they do?” into ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini. If an answer is wrong or empty, fix that first. Ask again on another day before you decide what’s true.

How did Agent Augusta do?

We were named in 15 of the 90 answers. 11 of those came from the two AI questions (“AI agency Augusta GA” and “Who can help my business show up in ChatGPT and Google AI answers”), where we were named in 11 of 18 answers. On the general marketing questions we were rarely named, and Claude still doesn’t know who we are. We’re fixing that the same way we’d fix it for you: complete profiles, consistent details and more reviews. If you’re picking a partner, here are 7 questions to ask before you hire a marketing partner in Augusta.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI assistant matters most for a local business?

Check all four. They read different sources and in different amounts, so a business can be named by one and missing from another. More on local SEO and AI search in Augusta.

Do I need a new website to show up in AI answers?

Usually not. Most of what the assistants used came from directories, reviews and existing pages. Fixing what those say often matters more than a redesign.

How often should I check what AI says about me?

Once a month or once a quarter is plenty, and ask more than once each time. A single answer is a snapshot; several answers across days show the pattern.
